Swim Gala!Flora & Ulysses PlayUOI GamesWord Study!Creating Our Own UOI Games! This week we utilized our knowledge of the lines of inquiry to create engaging games. We thought about the design process, as we created our prototypes and refined our games through experiments and tests. Learning about our lines of inquiry through games! We've been playing various interactive games designed to teach about habitat, food webs, and survival. We are gathering ideas for our own games that we plan to take through the design thinking process. Let's play! Sharing Our Passion ProjectsWe shared our stores, research, and art work during "Share Time". We heard a new story called I Will Not Eat Pickles and Jam and learned all about various types of food webs. Share time is a great opportunity to share what interests us. Fraction Fun with SkittlesInformative WritingKent Ridge Park Field TripThis week we visited Kent Ridge Park to study the connection between living organisms and their habitats. During the visit, we went on a habitat hunt and observed reptiles in the pond; snakes on tree branches; and collected fallen fiber samples from a live Kapok tree! Informational Research at the LibraryThis week we tuned into our new UOI: Sharing The Planet with a visit to the Paterson library. There, we found books relating to animals and their habitats. We then used our books to gather information as we wrote, and researched into our inquiry questions. Game of Eat or Be EatenThis week we focused on the differences between food chains and food webs. We played a game called "Eat or Be Eaten" by building the longest food chain possible. We discussed the patterns we observed after we built our food chains and discovered that it all began with plant life. This week we welcomed our parents during the student-led conference. Thank you for being such wonderful guests as the students proudly shared their learning with you. Reading together with K2 buddies! This week we read together with k2 friends. We shared our favorite books to share our love of literacy together. Fraction Fun ContinuedThis week we used our fraction kits to play several games to together. We explored with addition and subtraction of fractions. Grade 5 Exhibition PreviewThis week grade 5 students shared many workshops to give us a preview of what is to come during the exhibition. We can't wait! Mapping ISSThis week we used satellite images of ISS to create our own maps. We learned how to use a compass to determine the direction of building and streets. Fraction FunThis week we were introduced to fractions by making our own fraction bars. We shared our prior knowledge and discovered that fractions represent parts of a whole. Next we took our fraction bars and played several games to help us understand various operations. Middle School STEAM ExhibitionThis week we visited our middle school friends who shared their research on various STEAM projects. Coding With BeeBotsWe combined our knowledge of mathematics and problem solving to program our BeeBots. We completed our project by creating a maze for the BeeBots to travel through. We will then share our maps with K1 friends to extend our learning community. G2.2 leading Friday Assembly! It was a special Friday assembly as many of our students were risk-takers to moderate and play the piano for K-2 friends. Learning Through Artifacts at Fort Canning ParkThis week we explored Fort Canning Park. We went on a scavenger hunt for various artifacts to bring the central idea to life: We Learn About Civilizations From What Was Left Behind. At Fort Canning, we learned about civilization from ancient Malay and colonial era Singapore. Creating Our Maps |
