This week we focused on images in signs and symbols. We noticed that there are many different types of signs all around us!. We are getting ready to delve deeper next week into our central idea: Images Express Meaning. We will be looking at various genres in art and advertising to discuss what we see, we think, and wonder about. Stay tuned! Mathematics: All About Plane ShapesThis week we explored 2D shapes. We worked with various math tools (geo-boards and tangrams) to create and examine 2D shape and their attributes. Next week, we will investigate further into different types of polygons! Computers and other Technology! This week Mr. Gallagher visited to share a lesson on google slides. We learned how to create new folders and insert links into our portfolios. Performing Arts! This week, we were hard at work practicing our performance piece. It was inspired by the VanGogh's famous work The Starry Night (1889). We can't wait for opening day to share with you our creation! Fun Run!Today we ran for a good cause and raised $180 for the Singapore Food Bank. All of K-G2 students ran and together completed 2,923 laps! Now thats what we call taking action!

As we get ready to close our current unit of investigation: How the World Works, we actively gathered information and wrote our ALL ABOUT MATTER E-BOOKS using technology. Come and take a look. At home, ask us about our published E-Books and how we shared our knowledge on change in matter having an impact on our environment. Expanding Our Vocabulary through Non-Fiction Reading! This week we visited the Library and learned about non-fiction text features. We searched through key words in various information books and expanded our vocabulary through the glossary. We took our non-fiction reading skills and applied it to our own writing on ALL ABOUT MATTER! ALL ABOUT MEASUREMENT!As we finish our math unit on measurement, we put it all together by deciding on the best tools for measuring everyday objects. We used our knowledge of length, capacity, and mass to problem solve. Ask us how we can take measurement data and create our own bar graphs using a spread sheet! During this hands-on science investigation, we mixed various liquid ingredients to make SLIME. We discovered that physical changes in matter occur even without the use of heat. We then described the final product as a "semi-solid" because it had characteristics of solids and liquids. Exploring our line of inquiry: The Water CycleDuring our water cycle experiment we practiced our observation and inquiry skills. We placed warm water into a bowl and enclosed it with clear plastic wrap. We then placed an ice cube on top of the wrap to simulate the water cycle. During our investigation, we observed evaporation, condensation and precipitation in action! We made connections in real life as we discussed how water vapours can appear on your glasses as you're walking in hot and humid environments like Singapore. Investigations in Mathematics! |
