This week has been another week full of new routines and continued practices.
In Daily 5, students spent time working through the writing process on their summer memory writing. The writing process takes time but students really invested their time in their work. Students got their new word sorts started this week, spending time looking at patterns and sounds in words. Students logged into their RazKids accounts to Listen to Reading, our last piece of the Daily 5 to be introduced this year. Lucy was excited to read about animals who camouflage and Mia started gathering interesting words about monkeys in the Congo.
During math, students kept exploring numbers and patterns. They played Target Number and showed many ways to show numbers like 10, 24, 50 and 99. Students also logged into their Mathletics accounts for the first time on Chromebooks, and started their assigned work.
Students had some great discussions this week about communication and relationships. They carefully analysed pictures in magazines and cut out pictures that they thought showed our central idea: Communication builds relationships. They then made their own categories when sorting through the pictures, coming up with headings like: verbal, nonverbal, family, friends, school.
We were all very excited about our first House event, the Fun Run, but due to haze, it will be canceled for today.
