During the month of August and September we dove into our Unit of Inquiry: Who We Are. Our central idea is "Communication Builds Relationships." In order to investigate our concept we worked in groups to build structures utilizing verbal and non-verbal communication strategies.
Here are some of our projects!
Back to Back Drawings!
To investigate different forms of communication, we practiced using back to back drawings. We sat with our backs to our partners and drew pictures. Our goal was to use clear verbal communication strategies so that our partners could replicate what we drew. Take a look at our creations!
This week we focused on our word study. We work at our individual levels and study word patterns. We practice both independently, and with each other, to categorize our words and sort in many different ways!
Our August to September 15th birthday club!
Happy Birthday to Ameen, Ryo, Christo, and Isaiah!
Fun with Number Sense and Place Value!
This month we focused on our big idea of number sense in mathematics. We learned that numbers can be represented in many different ways! We investigated using our base ten blocks to mentally add to the thousands place by playing "Race to the Thousands!"
Daily Five! Our literacy program.
We are practicing our reading and writing during Daily Five. We work with partners and independently to build stamina and our literacy skills. This week we focused on listening to reading using technology and working on writing! Also, Mr. Galliger (our technology coordinator) came in to share lessons on creating documents using google drive.
Welcome to a new year. It's been an exciting and productive first week of school. This week we focused on building our classroom agreements, making connections, and collaborating with each other. We discussed what it means to be safe, responsible, respectful, and honest. Our week long question was "what do we need in oder to have fun while we learn together?" Students agreed that communication and compromise were very important.
August Birthday Celebrations! Our first day of school was also Christo's birthday. Thank you for sharing your special day with us.
Free Choice Friday is another time during the week when students strengthen their project building and cooperative working skills.
Cognitively Guided Math in G2.2 This week we work with base ten blocks to inquire into place value. The students played a game of Race for the Hundred to help solidify their math concepts.
