"On Thursday we had a Swap Shop and we swapped things. We exchanged things like used toys. We had a system for the Swap Shop like everyone had to bring something if you wanted to swap and that if something had a battery you needed extra information about it." - Ada
"When we exchanged money for things it was fun. When I was the cashier I needed to count the money, how much cents it is." - Ayumi "In the bartering survival game we had to give away something we didn't need. We tried to exchange wheat but no one wanted wheat but finally we exchanged the wheat for water. It was like when you grow up, it was real." - Allegra "We have got new laptops. They are called Chromebooks. We used to just use them and take them out and put them in but now we've got a new system for putting in and out the Chromebooks. So the first person that goes to put in the Chromebooks will put in the Chromebooks in but the people behind the person who is putting in the Chromebooks will do three steps back or more. And that system goes if we are putting in and out the Chromebooks. We should hold them in a special way. The way that we have to do it is on the Chromebooks there is a little handle, you should pull the handle up and a bit of a rough handbag handle will pop up or you will hold the Chromebook just under your armpit and have it secure with your arm and your hand on the corner." - Ronen

"We had fun in Math Day. We did a lot of fun math games like the House Game we played with the hoops. First there was a tower of four hoops. And then the first two people have to go to the first hoop. So you roll two dice and you add the numbers of the dice together to make a number and the one who has the biggest number moves to the next hoop but the one with the lowest number stays. At the very top of the tower, if you lose you have to go all the way to the bottom. So the top hoop in the tower win get 20 points. The third hoop will get 15 points. The second hoop will get 10 and the first will get 5. Raffles, Newton, and Orchard got points.
We had a new Daily 5 activity. It was our last fifth activity. It's where you get a Chromebook and listen to reading on Story online. So in listening to reading you have to listen to a book two times and do a short summary on a summary sheet or in your Daily 5 notebook. It was a really short week but we really enjoyed it!" - Ronen, Aaqil October 9th marked a very special day at ISS - International Day. While every day at ISS is a celebration of our diversity and cultures, International Day was a day to share the dress, foods and customs of our cultures with the entire school community.
Our post for week 8 is a bit late due to website glitches, but here is a quick update from last week:
Student Council representatives, Ronen and Isabel had their first meeting this week and shared the vision for making our school community an even better place to be! Students started incomplete vs. complete sentences, began exploring money, and our new Unit of Inquiry central idea: Exchange systems help our community. Here's a few pictures to show what we were up to! |
