G2.3 is now on Twitter! Our class handle is @ISSG23. Follow us so you can get more frequent updates from the class!
Congratulations to our new Student Council representatives - Ronen and Isabel! We had our first election in G2.3, and it was quite a race for the positions. We know that our class will be well represented. G2.3 had a lot going on this week! We will be out at Sports Day Friday so the Sports Day update will be next week! This week we were very lucky to have parent volunteers in to share how they communicate within their home cultures! We learned a lot about communicating in Spanish, Singlish, Thai, Philippine, American English and Italian! "I learned that Isabel's mom likes broccoli. Her father or grandmother were born in Thailand." - Ayumi "I learned in Literacy Cafe that you have to use this for reading and it helps you how to do work work and work on writing and read to self and also read to someone." - Archie "We had visitors that was Isabel's mom and Allegra's mom and two other moms from other classes. They teach us communicating from their country. Allegra's mom teaches us some Italian and that Italians speak a lot with their hands."- Ada

"We Skyped with Dr. Chris to learn more about sign language because we were learning about different ways to communicate. We learned that many countries have their own sign language. We learned different words from Dr. Chris's husband like "What is your name?", water, and we learned it from Dr. Chris's husband because he is deaf." - Isabel, Ronen "On September 4th, Ms. Kate talked about Student Council. To get on Student Council you have to write a speech to show why you want to be on Student Council and the reason why you do that is to show the learner profiles and 4 Be's. On Student Council there is one meeting in two weeks and you discuss about how you want to edit the school so it's better." - Aaqil
We had the Fun Run last Friday and we heard the results from Mr. Nathan today in Assembly. The results were: Congratulations Somerset, Raffles, Newton, and Orchard! You did a really, really good job! That's not the end because Sports Day is coming so Raffles, Newton and Orchard, you could win. - Aaqil, Archie, Yoojin, Ronen A new student named Daniel joined our class a couple of weeks so to get to know him this week I played with in Math time because it was free Math time. We played Place Value Bingo. After that Daniel didn't want to play so Ayumi and Satoshi wanted to play more so I did. We stopped after the second round of the game and built some objects.- Yoojin It's quite impressive that this week's bloggers are applying their learning from Mr. Gallagher's class too. They created the table above to show the Fun Run Results. Way to go! - Ms. Musiowsky Emma gets ready to chart responses from students as we explore methods of communication. The result of student discussion and charting, they compiled lists of ways people communicate, and determined if those ways were verbal (V) or non-verbal (NV). Aaqil and Ronen are in charge of dictating and typing today's blog post for G2.3.
In the first picture, people are doing their word sorts. In the second and third pictures someone is retelling a book without using the words, just the pictures. In the fourth picture, we took a class picture before we did our Fun Run. We are wearing our house colours and and if you don't know what is a Fun Run, you just run around the field as many times as you can and the grade 5's will count how many times you run around and they put a tally mark on your card. 2.3 had a great time." - We have a new thing called Daily 5 we didn't do that in any other grade. Stay tuned for Week 4 in 2.3! "My second week was great. We did lots of games in Math.We learned how to Read-to-Self. My favourite part of the week was library and computer." - Ada "I am planting an orange seed because I had an orange at snack and I two orange seeds in oranges. I planted to see how it grows." - Yoojin "My favourite thing this week was computer because we got to email the class." - Isabel "I liked music and computers. I learned to read out loud." - Emma "I am covering my eyes because Allegra is writing the number. We were playing Guess My Number." - Chloe and Allegra Students spending time sharing the books they've read with partners!
Stay tuned for more next week! Words from some of your kids about our first week together!
"My first first week was enjoyable because all the new students and the people I know are getting along." - Isabel "My first week has been fun because we done a lot of fun things like P.E. and making fish and Art." - Ada "My first week of grade 2 was really fun because I got to meet loads of people and now I'm getting along with them very well and playing with them a lot." - Ronen "My first week was fun because I made new friends and had lots of fun." - Yoojin "This first week of grade two was really fun because on the first day of school we shared about ourselves for the whole day and I found that fun." - Aaqil "This week was quite fascinating because in the sand pit we built a giant mountain and we walked up it. And almost all of ISS created it. And we did it as team work and everybody agreed whenever somebody wanted to help they could just help." - Archie A couple of photos below self-portrait drawing and reading time! Self-portraits will be on display on our hallway board along with writing about summer! Come by and see it Monday! Today was a great day in 2.3!
A special thank you to my new group of students for making the day enjoyable. Students spent some time "Finding Someone Who...", making the 4 Be's by explaining how to BE safe/honest/responsible & respectful, and creating unique fish to show their own uniqueness after reading the story Only One You. Welcome to Class 2.3!
